RSE (Relationships and Sex Education)
We promote personal wellbeing and development through our Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum (PSHE). PSHE is taught throughout the school in every year group, and is underpinned by our school ethos and values. This subject area gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.
The Department for Education announced changes to relationships and sex education (RSE), which is part of our program of study. These changes have come into effect and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements by having to teach Relationships and Health Education. The DfE also strongly encourages primary schools to deliver sex education to help prepare children for their transition to secondary school. The new guidance is about ensuring that all children get the appropriate information they need and want.
Therefore, we reviewed our RSE curriculum and policy in April 2021 (full consultation process with parents and governors too) so that we could be sure our provision is appropriate for our pupils based on their age, physical and emotional maturity, religious and cultural backgrounds, special educational needs and personal needs. The lessons help children to learn about their bodies, (age appropriate) including the changes that take place at puberty, and will help keep them safe, so they can form healthy relationships (friendships) with others, now and in the future.
